Frequently Asked Questions
Below you’ll find answers to the most commonly asked questions. If you don't find the answer to your question here, please email us with your enquiry and we'll get right back to you.
How much does an installation cost?
We pride ourselves on offering the best pound-for-pound value on the market and, unlike rival products, our work surfaces are underwritten by a lifetime guarantee. As with any bespoke installation, it’s difficult to give an accurate quotation without viewing the work required. We work hard to remain competitive on price, but we do not market cheap makeovers, instead design, quality and service are the main hallmarks of our brand.
Why choose one of our work surfaces?
Our Italian granite, quartz and recycled glass work surfaces look fabulous and offer a host of advantages over natural granite, stone, solid synthetic and other work surfaces. The diamond-polished finish is simple to wipe clean, with no special detergents or cleaners and no regular sealing required. These tough, hardwearing surfaces are non-porous, highly resistant to staining with coffee, wine, olive oil, vinegar and cosmetics, will withstand cigarette burns and are classified as non-flammable.
Will existing worktops be removed?
It is a distinctive characteristic of our lightweight, slimline materials that they are made to fit exactly over existing kitchen worktops, so there is no need to remove them. We will also remove and re-install your sink and hob unit so they sit properly on your new worktop, although we can supply new fittings if you require. The same or contrasting worktop material can also be extended upwards as splashbacks, over the existing tiles, or we can install our unique ‘mosaics on a mattress’ system, for an eyecatching glass mosaic finishing touch.
Are they suitable for new kitchens?
Yes, our worktops can be installed in new fitted kitchens and offer endless design possibilities, such as waterfall ends, large seamless island units, varying edge depths and bespoke worktop dimensions. As with similar engineered stone products, our product will be mounted on an MDF substrate or water-resistant construction board, before being fitted onto the kitchen cabinets. Again we can also incorporate standard or full-height splashbacks into the kitchen design, using our worktop material or authentic Italian glass mosaic tiles.
Can you fit replacement doors too?
Yes we can and the installation is normally carried out at the same time, by the same fitters, ensuring less disruption and delay. Again our woodgrain and vinyl-faced doors and drawer fronts are made to measure off-site, minimising dust and debris, then fitted efficiently, alongside the worktops. By choosing both Granite Transformations replacement worktops and doors, you are preserving the still serviceable cabinet carcases and interior fittings, which represent 40 per cent of the cost of a new fitted kitchen, so by refacing you’re saving still more money.
What about other rooms in the house?
Our work surfaces, glass mosaics and replacement doors are equally suitable for other hardworking rooms in the house. We can reface bathroom vanity units, storage cupboards, shower surrounds and bath panels. We can also upgrade utility rooms and laundries, installing new countertops and over worn-out work surfaces and replacing base and wall unit doors and drawer fronts. Outside the home, we can offer makeovers for garden sheds, caravans, motorhomes, horseboxes, houseboats, motor yachts and much more.
What does a normal job involve?
A typical installation job normally takes just one day, with glass mosaics adding perhaps an extra half-day. Since there is no ripping out of existing work surfaces involved and the new fittings are cut and made to size in our own workshop, the dust, mess and household disruption are kept to an absolute minimum. Also, the work is normally carried out by two factory-trained fitters, so there are no excess tradesmen cluttering up your home. Our lead time from you placing an order is normally 2 to 4 weeks.
What about our environmental policy?
Our ‘green’ policy is second to none in the home improvement industry and we work hard to minimise our impact on the environment. Our recycled glass worktops are made from reclaimed post-consumer material and all of our surfaces are made from a high percentage of recycled raw material. Granite Transformations worktops are only 6.7mm (¾”) thick, meaning we use less raw material in their manufacture, and our installation method ensures minimal builder’s waste for landfill disposal. Finally, the plants where our worktops and mosaics are produced are certificated to international environment management standards.
